This Month I’m a _______ Mom.
What kind of mom do I want to be? This is a question I ask myself every single day. Sure, I want to be nurturing and involved in my toddler and soon-to-be newborn’s lives. But I also want to be a rockin wife, a fitness guru, the next Sheryl Sandberg, and a travel maven. And that’s just on a Monday.
So I created the Ultimate Mom Challenge.
The Challenge: Each month I’ll choose one characteristic I want to build upon to help me be the best mom I can be. I will determine four goals to help me carve that path, and I’ll report back on my successes and (undoubted) failures, too.
Follow this journey as I explore the infinite possibilities of what motherhood is, can be, and never, ever should be.
The Monthly Goals:
- Read a relevant, popular book on the subject and start taking action as I read
- Determine one goal I want to achieve by the end of the month
- Try one new activity that may help me accomplish your goal
- Determine how I will involve the husband and kids so it’s a family experience, or at least, family benefit

About This Mama
Since becoming a mom nearly two years ago, I have spent too much time letting the days dictate my actions. Constantly letting life happen and watching/hoping it all turns out alright. And most of the time, let’s face it: parenthood is pretty routine. My days revolve around nap times, meal times, and play times. I also work part time, which is almost more routine. Days are shaped around meetings, deadlines, and “get ‘er done so I can pick up my son from daycare” urgency.
All I want, and all I’ve ever really wanted, is the find the secret sauce of being a great mom, a successful businesswoman, a loving wife, a good friend, and a quality citizen. How hard can that be?
So I’m stepping up to the plate, and taking charge. I’m going to stop waiting to see what kind of mom I become, and determine it for myself. Watch out, this could get messy.
