It’s a Small, Magical World

What is it about Disneyland that makes kids and adults become giddy and enthralled? This was a question I asked my mom the other day, because frankly, I was perplexed. Disney has managed to maintain a consistent brand that does not need to adjust to our culture’s ever-changing trends. They’re able to connect with every generation simultaneously. That is astounding, really. And every marketer’s dream.

I don’t have a lot of experience at Disneyland and Disney World. I visited a few times as a child, and I ran a 10K there last year. And yet, the nostalgia I felt in my mid-30’s for this destination (the Peter Pan ride, Space Mountain, It’s a Small World!) is indescribable and I’m just going to say it… MAGICAL!
And let me tell you, I was thrilled to go as an adult, no kids in tow. It was me and a group of girlfriends and I couldn’t imagine having more fun. No stopping for nap time, no potty emergencies, and no worries over who was tall enough to ride. If you can escape the family and do an adult trip to Disneyland, I highly recommend it.
I have so many friends who have taken their kids to a Disney park, and they all rave about it. My son is only two, so I think I will hold off for a few more years before I start saving up cash for this epic adventure. But the time will come. And to counter argue my own case, I have yet to hear a single person complain that their child, however young, did not have an incredible time. So I admit my excuse is pretty lame.
There are a few things about Disney parks that are less than stellar, of course. The crowds, the costs, the newer VIP services where you can buy your way past the lines and waiting (unless I become so wealthy, I can use this service, in which case — bring it!)
If you are eyeing Disney for a future vacation destination, I encourage you to download this free video from Disney Parks. It includes everything you need to start planning, from itineraries, maps, descriptions of the various parks and hotels, and videos that will get you so excited for the trip. Let’s face it, this is probably the only thing free you’ll receive on a Disney trip, so take advantage of it!
And tell me, what is it about Disneyland or World that makes you giddy? Is it the rides? The parades? A particular memory?
Hey! Thanks for posting this. It’s been on my list to start looking in to planning this as my kids have hit about the right age…
