You guys… I’m so excited. I had a eureka moment in the car and I couldn’t wait to sit down and brainstorm my personal commandments to achieve happiness.
You’re probably saying “Wait, what?” But listen up because this is awesome.
Gretchen Rubin, one of my favorite authors these days, wrote that as part of her Happiness Project she created a list of 12 personal commandments by which to live her life. You can see her 12 here.
What a freakin awesome idea right? Every company I’ve worked for had a mission statement and the principles in which to achieve them. Goals the company strives for… values inherent to the brand… big picture thinking. Why wouldn’t we as people do the same?
So I did! I used Gretchen’s as my template, and stole my favorites off her list (see the *). But I also added my own and came up with 10 personal commandments to help me achieve happiness, be a better person, and grow. Here’s what I came up with:
- Be Celeste*
- Enjoy the process*
- Don’t take it personally
- Lighten up
- Feel the fear and do it anyway
- Act the way I want to feel*
- Think bigger
- Relax… and breathe
- Why not me?
- Love is always the right choice
Each of these goes deeper than the words. Each of these holds a personal element focusing on how I hope to uphold myself to what matters most, based on my strengths and weaknesses as a person.
I’m going to print these out and put them everywhere: the office, my car, the bathroom mirror. Anywhere I can to remind myself what my personal principles are to try to live and find happiness in my life.
Want to do it too? You should! Yours will probably be different from mine, as we all strive for different goals and have our own strengths and weaknesses to work from. I even made a simple worksheet for you to brainstorm from and build your own list! Download it below.
Love these. Downloaded the template. Ready to put some action items in place.
