I’m tired, y’all.
I haven’t had a full night’s sleep in almost five years. Even now that my babies sleep through the night, I wake up several times anyway to pee, worry, check to see if everyone’s breathing, and to fuss over stolen sheets, room temperature, and my task list for the morning.
It’s not that I don’t take my sleep time seriously either. I do. I’m a bulldog about getting to bed by 9:30 p.m. I started keeping my phone out of the bedroom. I use white noise, an eye mask, and (for unrelated reasons) a night guard. I look like I’m ready for the sleeping Olympics by the time the lights go out. And come sunrise, I would remain behooved each morning when I still felt sluggish and foggy. I was in bed for 9 hours, people! How am I still tired????
My husband and I recently started using the Tomorrow Sleep mattress. a high-tech, hybrid mattress that I’m certain will change the mattress industry as we know it. Not only is it smart technology, but the company focuses on the entire sleep ecosystem to ensure a better rest. Mattress, sheets, comforter and sleep tracker are all working together to ensure a better night’s sleep. When you think about it, it’s stupid simple. Why didn’t someone think of this sooner? Pssssst. But here’s my “a-ha” moment. Now that I’ve been using this sleep ecosystem for a few weeks, I’ve been able to track my sleep cycle to the minute with their tracking technology. Holy moly people. Check out my results from one night’s sleep (on the right). No wonder I’m so tired. I’m in bed for nine hours but actually sleeping less than six.
I love having answers. I love solving mysteries. I feel like now I can focus on the problem at hand… my intermittent wake ups and restlessness. I’ve started drinking less water 2 hours before bedtime, and I’ve begun using a new meditation app to settle my thoughts. Boom.
Sleep is so important. I’m the kind of person who simply cannot function without proper sleep. And considering we spend so much time in our bedrooms, on our mattress, it seems pretty logical to make sure we’re making efficient use of this time. I’m grateful for any opportunity to improve my sleep structure, my sleep cycle, and my sleep results. My family’s pretty happy about it too, let’s face it 🙂
But I have one more plea, not just for me but for all the mamas out there. Give mama some time to take a nap. If she’s anything like me, she’s been running on empty for years now and needs a break. Just because the kids are good sleepers does not mean dear mama’s head’s not spinning over carpools, flu shots, meal prep, and who is babysitting next Thursday.
I think we’re feeling each other pretty hard right now. I “slept” for 5 hours on my girls’ room floor last night with a toddler who just wouldn’t go to sleep otherwise. I am pretty sure I was going somewhere with that, but I lost my train of thought. Aaaaaaand now it’s time to make another pot of tea. 😉 Good luck getting more rest, mama!
LOL. I do the floor nights more often than not. I feel you!!! May your sleep be good, and your tea strong!
