This summer, I want to put the “break” back in summer break for my kids.
Imagine how tired our kids are come June. Full days of mostly sitting behind a desk, trying to control their wiggly bodies.
A 15 minute recess here and there to get out the wiggles before back to the desks with paper after paper. Lesson after lesson.
My kids get home and they exhausted. Beat. Drained. They want to zone out, relax, not do anything.
But in the afternoons they are signed up for soccer, or music lessons, or STEAM class. No time to rest, we’ve got places to go!
Yet over and over my kids tell me “can’t we just stay home.”
Home is the only place where they can put their guard down. Breathe. After the last few years, more than anything my kids need time to wind down.
Summer camps, summer activities, summer vacations. It’s all fun and good but I know more than ever what my kids really need right now is a summer break.
