People call you a ‘hard’ child, but you’re the softest child I know.
It comes across as anger and tantrums, but I know deep inside it’s a projection of fear.
Your anxiety pulls at you constantly, and it pains me to see you feel the hard feelings a 7 year old shouldn’t have to feel yet.
People call you ‘loud’ and ‘too much’ but you are EXACTLY ENOUGH.
Smart and creative, you come up with ideas faster than your mouth has time to voice it all. You are spirited and passionate; everything the world needs more of.
You can’t sit still, and why should you have to?
Bodies are made for moving! Who in their right mind said kids should be sitting down more than a few minutes at a time anyway?
People say you are unfriendly and awkward, but you just know what you want.
Social skills are a work in progress and no kid has it all down pat unless people pleasing comes to them naturally.
And for you, sweet child, it does not. You don’t see the point of small talk and you struggle to see the point of acting nice to someone you don’t like. I get it, honey – I do. But while there’s a difference between being nice and being kind, I expect you to learn and practice both.
Social cues are extremely challenging for you; we could sense that early on. Empathy has been slow to develop too.
But that’s just because are brains all develop at different rates. That’s ok! We will grow in this together.
People can say what they want.
You, my sweet child, are exactly the way you’re suppose to be. And just because you are learning, growing and blossoming at a different speed than someone else only proves that you are human.
You are too much or not enough of anything. You are just right.
