Last year, when the world turned upside down, we had to make some adjustments at home to accommodate two working parents and two kids distance learning. We all did right? Humans can be extremely resilient in the face of adversity.
Sometimes when I’m scrolling social media, I see pictures of peoples homes: their offices, their home gyms, their playrooms… and I get major FOMO.
I’ll pop onto Zillow even and look around to see what else it out there. Can I get a home in my budget that’s bigger, newer, more modern? Is everyone living this lavish lifestyle and I’m the only one settling with good enough?
Today, as I ran on my treadmill in my ‘running corner‘ of the makeshift playroom/office, I thought about how I actually like the multipurpose space we’ve created. It’s fitting, and I love knowing my kids might come in and start bouncing on the trampoline while I run, or my husband may jump on the computer for something.
This room is a little like how we live. It’s messy, multipurpose and it gets the job done. I imagine Architectural Digest won’t be calling anytime soon, but when did I ever want that kind of stuffy lifestyle anyway?
In a world full of social media influencers, I wish there was more REAL. I don’t need to play the comparison game anymore. That’s just consumerism getting the best of us. Maybe if all just start sharing our reals, we would find more pleasure and satisfaction in what just IS.
